Peter John Murray (23 April 1920 – 20 April 1992) was a British art historian and the Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck College, London from 1967 to 1980. Together with his wife, Linda Murray, he wrote primers on Italian Renaissance art which have been used by generations of students. In 1959 they published the highly successful ''Penguin Dictionary of Art and Artists'', which was frequently updated and reissued. In 1963, they published two substantial introductory texts ''The Art of the Renaissance,'' and a book that became a classic primer ''The Architecture of the Renaissance''. Linda also wrote several books on her own, and completed their collaboration ''The Oxford Companion To Christian Art And Architecture'' (1996) after Peter died. Sir Peter Edward Murray is the founder and executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, now a sculpture venue with an international reputation. Biography He studied Fine Art and Education, teaching in General, Further and Higher Education. Until 1975 he exhibited frequently and has paintings, drawings and prints in several public and private collections. As Principal Lecturer in Art Education at Bretton Hall College, he founded Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He has contributed to International Sculpture Center conferences in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Princeton. Recent lectures have included a major Art and Environment conference in Japan, a British Council lecture for the University of Tokyo and a major lecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He is known for his career with the BBC, including stints on the Light Programme, Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 4. In the 1950s, Murray became one of Britain's first pop music television presenters, hosting the rock and roll programme ''Six-Five Special'' (1957–1958) and appearing as a regular panellist on ''Juke Box Jury'' (1959–1967). Starting his music career in the mid-1990s, he has been the lead vocalist for a number of bands, including nu metal band Ultraspank, hard rock band Lo-Pro, acoustic rock, acoustic/electronic rock band Life On Planet 9, industrial rock band Chokt, and most recently, Rock music, rock band White Noise Owl. Peter Marshall Murray, M.D. (June 9, 1888 – December 19, 1969) was president of the National Medical Association from 1932 to 1933. Biography He was born on June 9, 1888, in Houma, Louisiana to John L. Murray and Louvinia Smith. He attended Dillard University and graduated in 1910. In 1914 he was awarded his M.D. from Howard University. He interned at Freedmen's Hospital and then taught at Howard University. He served on the Howard University Board of Trustees. He married Charlotte Wallace in Washington, DC on July 2, 1917. In 1920 they lived in the Truxton Circle neighborhood at 1645 New Jersey Ave NW with Charlotte's mother, her 23-year-old sister, and a live-in domestic servant. Peter Chapman Murray (23 January 1884 – 6 February 1968) was a New Zealand rugby union player and politician. He played one Test for New Zealand in 1908, and was chairman of the Waimarino County Council from 1918 to 1926.
